Carenado is a household name in the flight sim industry. If you're bought flight sim payware add-ons before, you've likely heard of Carenado. Founded in 2001 by Fernando Herrera, Carenado has covered aircraft add-ons for FS98 right up to the brand new MSFS release of 2020. Carenado is based in Santiago, Chile, and has a team of developers, designers, and 3D modelers.
Known for the prop and turboprop models that they are famous for and have focused on, they also have small business jets in their add-on portfolio too. They have even developed a model for the Dassault Falcon 50EX - likely their largest.
They have received numerous awards and accolations in the flight sim community over the years. Their support team are always on-hand and responses are always answered in timely manner.
Rated 5.0/5.0 based on 3 customer reviews
Carenado's latest addition to their catalog is the Cessna C172N Skyhawk II, and this one has been developed just for Microsoft Flight Simulator X. This means that Carenado have been able to take full advantage of the software and squeeze everything they can out of it. Available as an immediate download and compatible with SP2, Acceleration and DX10, you can be taxiing this Skyhawk to the runway in no time.
The polygon optimized model is a faithful representation of the original aircraft, capturing all of its charm as well as its form, while remaining frame rate friendly. With its high, fixed wing design, passengers will have spectacular and unobstructed views from the windows, which feature special transparency effects. A total of four original liveries offer a few options when it comes to color and design, all of which are very realistic and loaded with detail. When you apply the various texture maps and dynamic shadows, the aircraft takes that next step and becomes almost tangible.
Add in all the lights, moving parts and special animations and the level of realism rises even further. From the realistic propeller effects, to the smaller details like the antenna and pitot tube cover, Carenado manage to keep the Skyhawk consistent; everywhere you look there is something that boosts your immersion and never anything to detract from it.
The same is true of the interior, where a 3D modeled pilot and cockpit area houses a custom panel fitted with custom gauges. Further animated sections such as the sun visor, pilot's window and fresh air control, help you to feel right at home. With further dynamic shadows on the virtual cockpit, alongside special lighting effects for both day and night, the cockpit has a wonderful ambiance that makes it very comfortable, even on long flights.
To top it all off, Carenado's Skyhawk II has flight dynamics that are remarkably close to the real thing. The performance, weight, balance and even the general behavior, have been carefully recreated based on pilot observations, original documentation and of course, their own experience. The end result, is a truly authentic aircraft that boasts a high level of detail and realism, and offers a riveting flight experience that you can keep coming back to.
I purchased this Cessna 172N Skyhawk software for use on FSX. As a student pilot, we have 2 Cessna 172N aircraft. While this software is excellent, it does have a few drawbacks. The first is that the avionics that come with the software are truly antiquated. There is no useful GPS. The radio stack is ancient. There is no auto-pilot
What is needed is an upgrade to this software that includes the GPS GNS 430 and/or GNS 650. We have one of each installed in each of our aircraft.
Also, the VORs in this software do not work (or at least, not well anyway).
Other than that, I like the software and use it nearly every day to supplement my flight training.
5/5 Verified Purchase
Excellent plane, smooth, elegant and very real. I have fun feeling the very special sound of this plane - that was the original models. I learn a lot. Thank you.
