Although the Swedes aren’t exactly known for their prowess in military aviation, in the past the Swedish formed Saab JAS 39 Gripen is a fantastically well managed single engine, single seat aircraft that was made for just about any purpose. Need to blow something up? Fine! A bit of reconnaissance? Sure!
This was an aircraft that was made for military purposes in various formats, and was made for use whether it was raining or snowing.
As far as aviation designs go, this was first released to replace the old-school J-37 Viggen and to give it a more modern and effective outlook. It surpassed its brother in every single fashion, offering a faster yet smaller and sleeker equivalent to fly around in. The new model itself utilizes the excellent fourth-gen military aviation technology, creating a hugely efficient aircraft that is sure to be a lot of fun to fly.
It comes with an augmented turbofan engine and is managed by an all-digital, fly-by-wire control pack as well as canard wing control surfaces. It was a vital part of Swedish military aviation, and established them as a key player within the NATO circles – it’s capable of carrying just about all ordnance asked of it, making it a truly valuable and effective war craft.
It really does make the perfect ally to have out there on the battlefield, and with this download you can now see why the Saab model is so well respected – if you’ve never flown Swedish aviation before, you’ll wonder why after using this!
Some of the most impressive designs that are included in this package are made available to give you a deeply impressive and realistic looking aircraft. By making the most of features like bump mapping, self-shadowing and bloom effects on the FSX model you can be sure that you are flying something a bit more impressive than your average piece of military aviation.
Total compatibility with FS2004 and FSX, making it much easier to fly this aircraft and to make sure that you can use it and get the most out of it, regardless of simulator choice or selection.
The package itself is designed with the idea of allowing you to use either the single seat edition or the twin seat edition, ensuring that you get total control and comfort over the whole thing and that you can fly the module with absolute ease.
This comes with five awesome loadouts all made from scratch to give you a real appreciation of the depth and level of power that this aircraft brings to the table. Thanks to its industrious nature and solid size, this model can be the perfect ally to those who want to see just what kind of configurations are available and like to try out the full range of strength in aircraft.
Four brilliant texture plans make it easy to fly this model in a way that you remember it best, whether you go with the Swedish, Czech, Hungarian or South African option is entirely up to you!
A highly authentic flight model comes equipped with an awesome checklist to keep you on track and make sure that you are always on track regardless of where you’re going! No matter what you want to see or do, this checklist will tell you!
Comes with brilliant animation changes and additions that really bring the whole thing to life, thanks to the addition of the crew canopies to make it have that extra level of realism. The animations included are all extremely crisp and smooth, and make managing this aircraft much easier moving forward.
Likewise, it has an animated re-fuel probe that moves along with you in the right way and makes it far more realistic feeling as you fly around, whilst also adding a huge useful feature in alongside you so that you never need to worry about the refueling process when flying.
Animated afterburner petals that look great and make it nice and easy for you to really buy into the volume and the style of this aircraft entirely.
A detailed and authentic cockpit that comes with some very effective, mousable switches that really will make flying this aircraft so much simpler. However, these extra cockpit effects will be propped up by the fact that the aircraft – in real-life – is one of the easiest to fly thanks to its digital make-up in the cockpit. This is reflected here in the incredibly easy to use cockpit that makes flying around a piece of cake.
All-XML 2D panels that offer a really easy and effective way to fly the aircraft providing you with three awesome MFD displays as well as a HUD that are designed to making sure you have total and utter control when you are flying this aircraft, regardless of your destination.
Automatic staged animated afterburners roar into life when needed with this aircraft, providing an awesome visual effect with various performance boosts all across the board.
A simulated Gripen soundset was made from scratch to be used within this package, and the whole thing sounds the way that it should with hours of optimizing and management done on every sound, no matter how minor.
The pilots are Togglable as well if you want to have a pilot that can be seen instead of flying one of the famous ghost aircraft that so many flight simulation mods happen to leave you with.
Automatic smoke trails, wing surface vapor flashes and wingtip vortices effects all come to life here and make it nice and easy to see this aircraft in all of its beauty and splendor, ensuring that you have no problems whatever in getting used to its nature and format with ease.
Do you like to see some extra effects added in there for good measure? Then if you use this in FS9 you will find that the virtual cockpit rain effects are added in to make the cockpit look even more welcoming, and even more impressive than it does on FSX.

The good old Saab is an aircraft that I spend a lot of time writing about when I was in School for a project so I was really looking forward to finally trying it out properly on a sim. I was immediately impressed with how good the design was – it felt very much like the real thing and I spend a long time investigating the depth of the model and how the little features that others might not notice stood out.
I have to say that it managed to get everything spot on (despite my best attempts to find an inaccuracy) and the perform levels seemed to be match what the real thing is capable of, too!
Instantly, I loved the fact it was so easy to install, too. This made it nice and simple to fire up and just start using which is always a nice change from having to cast a magic spell to make the mod work. With this package I really got to try out an old school sweetheart and it was everything I was hoping for. Slick, easy to fly around in, versatile, friendly to fly even for a newbie like myself, and a hugely attractive looking design that made flying it even easier.
Add in the fact that it was such a realistic recreation in terms of its incredible speed and power and it was a piece of cake to buy into the premise of the model, and the hard work Virtavia had put in.
An excellent job, all round!
Super model absolutely.... But I still want the Gripen in X-Plane 11. Does anybody how to get one or buy one....
