Without a doubt, the R44 is one of the most popular aircraft of its kind. First brought out in 1993 after three years of production, it long ago established itself as a hugely useful support helicopter that serves across various different functions and facilities.
This package gives you access to the R44 unlike any other way that you have ever seen it before. With a huge attention to detail and massive amounts of information included to bring the package together, this can be the perfect addition for anyone who likes to fly helicopters over typical planes.
It can be an incredibly useful aircraft that is so versatile, as is the case with the R44. This has been created using hours’ worth of information and detail to get the closest representation of the aircraft possible. This makes something that is hugely detailed and authentic to the real thing, carrying all of the hallmarks that made the original so popular and easy to use.
Based on the real flight dynamics, looks, features, strengths and limitations this captures the unique personality of the R44 perfectly and gives it every possible feature that could be included within a flight simulator.
If you are still using FS2004, then you’ll be pleased to know that this latest package from the excellent Just Flight is fully compatible. This means that you can break off into a whole new flight adventure whether you prefer the more minimalistic approach of FS2004 or the updated and high octane experience than FSX can be at times.
Whatever it is that you like about either simulator, this works perfectly in both giving you ultimate blend between performance, style and class. This will make everything much easier in the long-term, and will guarantee you are left with a genuine representative of this excellent piece of aviation history.
Robinson are well known for their overall class in production, and this gives you a full insight into just how good of a company they are when it comes to making a truly awesome aircraft.
What You Get
In this package, you receive access to three unique aircraft;
- A skid-equipped R44 Raven II
- A fixed utility R44 Clipper II
- An emergency float R44 Clipper II
Whatever you intend to do in your new aircraft you’ll be able to take off at your leisure in all three of these excellent choices. Each aircraft is also equipped with plenty of useful little tools to make sure that you can get the right kind of flying experience for you.
Another big inclusion within the files, though, is the excellent manual that you can use to help train yourself up. Flying a helicopter can be hard work, especially the R44. If you are a novice or inexperienced at flying a helicopter you might want to consult the flight manual for a bit of extra motivation and guidance. Included in an easy to read PDF format, you’ll be able to easily load up the file on your PC or a mobile device and learn all of the tricks of the trade.
Inside the manual you’ll find an easy to follow tutorial as well, which can be pretty useful in helping you really understand what is going on and how you can really get to grips with this aircraft. The cockpit can be a bit daunting at first, and these tutorials will help you get to grips with the aircraft in question. The simulator also has a checklist of typical procedures that need to be followed so that you can get the most out of your R44 when you take off.
A New Cockpit Experience
The cockpit is, of course, where all of the action goes on for a pilot so it’s very important to have the best cockpit that you possibly can. This recreation of the R44, thankfully, takes this to a whole new level by providing you with an incredibly open and comfortable cockpit. Despite being a fairly challenging aircraft to learn at first, getting over the initial hurdles an being able to put together the right quality of flight performance is always going to be possible with so many options in front of you. Just Flight took real attention to care when remaking this cockpit and it really shows through, with;
Warning lights to keep you aware when your aircraft might be in a bit of trouble, including things such as an engine starter motor engaged warning. These little hints will make sure that you always have something going on at the cockpit, teaching you to become alert and capable of quickly adjusting to the situation
New avionics are included, too, which can be easily located by simply checking out the pop-up windows that can be activated with just a few clicks!
A mouse-over pop-up tool to help you get used to the name of each instrument and reading in front of you. Before long you will start to read the actual signs that are popping up in front of you, which will make life a lot easier in the future as you try to memorize this specific cockpit
All meters have been made to read in an accurate manner and give you something back that you can genuinely understand. What is being relayed to you is being taken from your own FSX settings so you get the right kind of information and not just the right volume!
Incredibly high quality textures have been produced for the 3D models of each aircraft. With many hours of revisions and changes included in there, these are as accurate as they can be and have been remade to fit both FS2004 and FSX perfectly. This helps to really put the whole thing together as the quality of the design matches the realism of the performance
Even the smallest and most insignificant of features have been included – from skip marks and rotor heads to the navigation radio antennas, all of the little things have been added in there to help you really feel at home within the cockpit as everything will be capable of standing out
A useful checklist left inside to make it nice and simple to go between one item and the next, and to guarantee that you start the aircraft as easily as you possibly can
Animations have been reworked entirely; even a pilot has been included for maximum quality and realism. This means that the pilot will move as you look around and perform the actions that you ask of him, further enhancing the overall quality and realism of your flight experience
Guarantee you will always be learning and improving with one of the widest control schemes available for a helicopter, giving you unprecedented access to the R44 brand unlike you will ever have had in the past. The new features and massive attention to detail guarantees a truly useful learning environment
Immersive cockpit that takes all of the key features and introduces them to you clearly and easily; this will make your flight a lot easier to enjoy, too, as everything that you think about doing will actually be possible thanks to the incredible list of features that you can access
Realistic 2D instrument panels that give you accurate readings and information back as you run through the skies – this makes sure that you are able to learn while you fly instead of just having a guess at what the readings might be saying, helping you improve whilst you put the hours in
A full set of customized gauges and annunciator lights that make the whole thing feel so much better – with these extra high quality lights you’ll have better visibility than ever before as well as so much information in front of you to run over and learn from over time
Although this package is compatible with both FS2004 and FSX, it naturally has access to new features on FSX only that would not be capable of being added into the engine for FS2004. For FSX owners you’ll be able to;
Enjoy even more realistic graphics and improved features, as the specular and bump mapping that is more available in FSX will shine. Just Flight are known for creating awesome graphics and nice little features like this, but this really helps to create the right kind of atmosphere and style. Everything from the minor little rivets and textures in general have been optimized to look the very best that they can
Making the most of the new gauging system in FSX, you’ll have even more accurate and realistic data coming back to you from within the cockpit. This can be very useful in the long-term as you’ll obviously have a better reading on what the aircraft is actually telling you in the first place!
New views have been brought in with FSX too that let you take in the aircraft from different angles, giving you a full view of just how awesome it looks and how great it feels to fly!

5/5 Verified Purchase
I run FS2004 on a tablet so I can sim when I travel--and I have so many aircraft made during the heyday of freeware, including a trike I created myself for the sim.
The Robinson R44 from Justflight, dollar for dollar, is the best copter available for the sim, I feel, since it fills a piston four place helicopter niche, and Justflight's support is outstanding, plus the ease of my Simshack purchase, my first ever.
The R44 comes with a utility that allows you to change the registration of the majority of its default liveries (UK) to other countries, like the US.
Another great feature, if you go to fuel and payload and add a copilot and/or pax, they appear (or do not appear if you remove them) in the internal and external model--a neat trick for the sim.
I modified the panel.cfg slightly, to add an autohover gauge which works perfectly with all of my add-on helicopters, like the freeware Munch Brothers Rotorway and the freeware AS350, among other copters I enjoy.
The R44 can be configured with a choice of an easy or more realistic flight model thru the same utility that lets you change registrations.
I have flown in an R44 once, at an airshow in Goodyear AZ some years ago, which is why this payware aircraft is a must have for me.
It is rare to see payware still available for FS2004, but I am happy this model is still out there for those simmers who enjoy the challenge of flying MSFS copters.
