Have you ever used the Piper brand of aircraft before? Then you’ll probably notice just how different the PiperSport PS-28 looks to, well, any of their aircraft so far! This is for one good reason; the PiperSport PS-28 was licensed to Piper in 2010 after originally being the CZAW SportCruiser.

Originally released in 2006 under the Czech Aircraft Works brand, Piper liked it so much they took it on – and now, for any fans of this dainty little aircraft, you can now take it for a whirl in incredible detail. Every last little feature has been touched on to make sure that the aircraft looks the very best that it can, and the difference in this to any other Piper aircraft can make for a neat little change of direction for any big Piper fans out there.

The story of the PiperSport is a rather curious one; if you’ve never even heard of it before, there’s a good reason for that. The re-licensing to Piper only lasted ten months as too many differences between the companies came to an end – in the end, only 45 of the aircraft were even sold! So, this is a bit of a hipster choice.

If you’d like to take an aircraft up into the skies that you’ve probably never even seen before, despite being relatively modern, then this is a fine choice. It’s got a lot of personality, with a unique white and yellow paintjob that shows up extremely well in X-Plane.

The attention to detail in the model is absolutely outstanding – if you compare the aircraft in game to a real-life picture of this rare little beauty, you’ll be able to see the incredibly similarities. The little features all come together fantastically in this design, and make sure that you are left with an aircraft that looks absolutely outstanding and performs just as you would have hoped for.

The aircraft came with some of the models using the fancy D100 glass cockpit, as well as an autopilot system. If you want to really get all of the magic out of this aircraft you might want to try this out; it’s fairly quick through the air and can be a useful tool for jetting around in. It’s different design from anything seen before by Piper means that it can be a fan novelty jumping behind what is a totally different cockpit.

Whilst you won’t have access to any of the fancy autopilot features that some of the more premium models were shipped with, you’ll have a Garmin GNS5300 GPS to use as your means of navigation. The sleek features and simplistic design make this the perfect aircraft for those who prefer something smaller that’s a little more versatile hand your traditional aircraft. It’s a dream to fly thanks to the realistic approach to the flight dynamics and despite barely making it out of the factory this can be a very useful addition to any X-Plane enthusiast’s custom aircraft collections.

Key Features

  • This package has been designed from scratch using hours of research and expertise to create highly realistic 3D models, complete with the best textures that X-Plane can manage. The attention to detail on the little aspects of both model and texture help to bring everything together and enhance the entire experience for any Piper fans out there

  • Incredibly detailed textures have been included to give you the most authentic design possible; having every last part of the aircraft covered with a realistic design really helps to add to the overall simulation. When the aircraft looks as it should, you can feel more at home when flying

  • Interested in making your own designs to use in the future? Then you’ll have a blank texture to do just that. With plenty of tutorials out there on how to make your own textures you can have a bespoke PiperSport up there in the skies in no time – this can be incredibly useful for augmenting the whole experience if you want to fly under your own banner

  • Flight characteristics of the plain have been followed to the last detail - if you are looking for authenticity then you will find it here in abundance. The entire aircraft comes together perfectly and really feels as if you are flying the real thing; nothing is too powerful or undervalued, the exact flight specifications that the PiperSport was built with have been used to give you the most realistic flying experience you can get

  • Completely compatible with 64-bit machines so if you are looking forward to flying around in the PiperSport you can do so with a high-end machine

  • Plugin-enhanced to ensure that you get the most dedicated experience possible; everything can come together perfectly with other mods to give you a complete experience

  • FPS-optimized model so that you get a truly fresh flight; nothing will feel like its lagging or pulling too much on your system resources. If you feel that some mods are a bit too heavy on system resources you’ll rejoice when you finally get to use this excellently created model

  • Scroll wheel support to make your communication and visibility when you are flying as simple and as effective as you possibly can.

  • Comes with the default X-Plane 10 GNS530 GPS system built-in. if you are used to more high-end aircraft that can jet through the skies with a wealth of classy cockpit tools to play with, you’ll find that the GPS is one of your few high-end navigation aids, making flight challenging!

  • Awesome side-view prop effect included to give you a nice view of the aircraft whilst you soar through the air, helping to enhance the view that you get of the aircraft at all-times. You’ll really be able to see all of the little details and inclusions that make the model so effective

Well, what a little gem this is! One of the best things about flight simulators, is that they give you access to aircraft that are otherwise completely unavailable. Maybe they've gone out of service, or there aren't any left or maybe they stopped making them over a difference of opinion - like with this PiperSport. Thankfully, development teams like Alabeo are around to not only make these rare aircraft available to us, but to immortalize them in virtual form.

The story of this aircraft is a strange one, according to the description above, which only served to peak my interest further. Having been looking for something a bit different to spend some hours in over my weekend, I figured this one was a good choice; I knew Alabeo's reputation for producing great add-ons, and it wasn't quite like anything else in my hangar.

One of the first things I did was make a custom livery for myself, which was actually easier than I've found it to be in the past. It might be because there is very little real estate; it's quite a dainty aircraft, there's not really that much too it, so populating the blank texture didn't feel like as much work. But I did eventually fall back to the default red and yellow, because that's the one with the interesting history.

This thing is great fun, and it can be very challenging. I'm sure that many pilots would take to this aircraft like a duck to water, but I wasn't used to having so few navigation aids. In fact, I'm still getting the hang of it, but that's part of the reason I love this thing. It was a new experience for me to pick up an aircraft and not really know how to fly it well; I'm so used to flying different aircraft the same way, while enjoying the subtle differences between how they fly. But this one took it the next level with flight dynamics and behaviour unlike anything else I've flown.

You can tell from video that the aircraft looks amazing. The smallest details, even down to individual rivets can be clearly seen thanks to the top quality textures, and all while remaining frame rate friendly. But it's not any one thing that makes it great, it's that everything comes together so well into a unified whole.

Much of the detail is very good and flight characteristics are pretty good except I can not trim it adequately for all power settings, especially on short final can not trim the nose down. P factor/torque on takeoff is opposite real life and taxiing is far more difficult than the real Piper Sport/Sport Cruiser. Much more power and climb rate than the actual plane has and I simulate it by restricting the throttle application. Still I am glad to have the plane that I actually fly in real life available on the simulator.

This is a great little trainer aircraft(No autopilot, and basic avionics) with some superb modelling inside and out. For the price it's good value. Used on X-Plane 11 and works great.

Flew the aircraft on X-Plane 11.3. Flies as advertised, typical Alabeo quality. Hope they continue to develop LSA, ELSA aircraft.

Tested on X-plane 11.10, works fine, looks great. Can't say much about the flight dynamics, but satisfied overall.
