The development team at AFS-Design have released another great package for use in Flight Simulator X and FS2004, this time showing off two of their concept aircraft. Sometimes it's good to take a break from doing everything so seriously, and what better way than to take some time to try your hand piloting two fun and experimental concept aircraft. These strange and wonderful aircraft will provide hours of fun as you learn to master strange technologies like new methods of propulsion. Available as an immediate download, that won't take up much room on your hard drive, this add-on offers a quick fix of unbounded entertainment.
One of these models is classed as a supersonic gyro-copter. Similar to a helicopter in the way it functions, except that the rotors are passively powered by the wind and are capable of breaking the sound barrier! With a special design allows it to operate briefly like a VTOL aircraft. The second model, is a super futuristic helicopter that can turn into a jet mid flight, allowing for vertical take off and forward speeds twice the speed of sound!
With fully functioning cockpits, these aircraft feature most of the equipment you would find in a present day cockpit, including numerous multifunction and instrument flight displays. Access to both a 2D and a 3D panel with 1024 x 1024 textures should add a degree of comfort and familiarity to these otherwise unknown, futuristic aircraft.
The detailed exterior models can be painted in one of two default liveries, a smooth gray or a black and white color scheme. A blank texture is also included for repainters who want to make these aircraft even more unique. The exterior also features window reflections and other reflective surfaces that work in harmony with extensive outdoor lighting.
A host of custom animations, from the heli-jet afterburner to the complex rotor mechanisms make this aircraft all the more enjoyable to fly. If you're happy to not take it too seriously, as I'm not sure that these adhere to a working physics model, they are certainly good fun and the perfect tool to use if you're in need of some playful escapism.
