Battle of Britain: Hurricane for FSX

Battle of Britain: Hurricane for FSX

As the name might already have implied to you, the Hurricane was known for its speed and its precision. Masterful in the air and incredibly graceful, this is an aircraft that some might not be entirely aware of or even know that it existed in the first place. The Hurricane played the supporting role to the Spitfire during the Second World War but, as any Hurricane pilot could testify for you; this aircraft didn't let anyone down. Read more...

More durable and robust than its popular counterpart, the Hurricane was the brawns of the operation that dealt with things using rather unerring accuracy. However, it was also cheaper to build thanks to using the fabric over the frame instead of all-metal. Eventually, it was produced post-1935 after all the kinks in the design had been improved upon.

Three versions of the aircraft took to the skies to go toe-to-toe with the Axis and put an end to them during the Battle of Britain, and was a key part of being able to help turn the tide of battle and make sure that the Allies were going to be capable of forcing back the German offensive and win the war.

It's all of the little things in this design that make it stand out, so if you are looking to up your WW2 knowledge and make a nice contribution to your flight studies at the same time, this is exactly what you need to do. Extremely enjoyable to fly and useful in a variety of situations, the Spitfire maybe shouldn't hog the limelight so much when you see it in comparison with this rather splendid aircraft !

This Just Flight exclusive is the most realistic take on the Spitfire yet, and can be the perfect addition to your FSX library.

What You Get

In this package, you'll receive access to this excellent fighter from the Second World War in all of its various guises. One of the most impressive things about the war was the way that aircraft was constantly modified and changed to fit the needs and requirements of that specific task. As the name might apply, the hurricane was quick to change and therefore it served in many different forms. This package delivers you more than 10 unique versions of this awesome aircraft, including;

  • Standard Hurricanes from the Battle of Britain era, flown by different squadrons and various famous pilots from the area. All of these Mk 1 Hurricanes come with a unique and high-end paint scheme that makes them truly stand out from the crowd

  • The Royal Yugoslav Air Force equivalent of the Hurricane is also included to give you an easy way to fly something a bit different to the norm. it was used in the late 1930s by many armies including the Yugoslavians, and served as an extremely important part of the development and change within the fight for Britain in the skies; only 20 existed in total, but each fought manfully

  • Early production equivalents and prototypes are also added in for an extra layer of class and effect; if you want to see the lifespan of the Hurricane unfold in front of you then you can easily do so with this excellent package, giving you the first prototypes right through to the first and early production models prior to the Mk1 reaching the skies to save the day

All of these aircraft were incredibly useful in a fight and became massively important moving forward, each serving their purpose in various theatres across the Second World War.

What's New?

Typically, the changes that were included in this package were built around ensuring users got the most realistic representation of the various Hurricanes possible. To do this, there had to be a total re-think on  how the aircraft would fly in comparison to normal. If you want a new experience, this is for you.

By introducing proper old-school Second World War style commands and controls you'll find that your aircraft will be a fair bit more limited than what you might be used to in modern times. This might not be the flying fortresses that we have today that are all capable of autopilot, but its unique charm and style is more than enough to make it stand out.

Additionally, many new animations were created to give you an aircraft that runs and operates just as it should. These new changes help you see how different each part of the aircraft would have operated, giving you a much clearer idea of how it would have worked in the first place.

This helps you make the right moves when trying to learn the aircraft as everything that has been added was originally there on the real thing; no interpretations have been taken and nothing has been added that shouldn't be there in the first place. For many aircraft it can feel a bit generic or simple, but this brings in all of the challenges that you would if you were trying to fly the real thing!

Awesome special effects have been added in as well so that when you are flying your aircraft you'll be able to see the smoke begin to come out of the back and really make things hard to see for those behind you, just as the old Hurricane was so popular for back in the day!

Improvements

The improvements that were brought in to make this perform at its very best are all mostly in the cockpit. Because we are going back in to create something incredibly limited by modern standards, the vast majority of the flight features we are all used to will be sorely lacking.

This means that you need to get used to the old way of flying; taking control, being direct and thinking quickly. You no longer have an army of cockpit controls to use that let you put your feet up and relax with; now, you'll expect to fly your aircraft with the right mentality and style that the real pilots would have needed. If you wanted to have an easy flight that you could coast through with this aircraft you are going to be sorely mistaken as it requires your constant and dedicated input for every last decision the aircraft makes!

This allows you to start getting really involved; the entire flight process can be far more engrossing when you have so much to think about and consider as you fly through the air. This brings everything together and lets you become a more rounded and adept pilot of an aircraft.

However, the changes here that have been brought in are far more than this; they are also massively different to the original aircraft. If you are sick of the rather banal or similar feeling of the old aircraft, you'll absolutely love being able to fly this proper aviation relic instead.

By helping you get into a more concentrated state of mind - without being on the ball 100% you'll probably crash! - you'll find that this unique aircraft can become one of your favorites because of how diverse it is compared to its typical challengers in the skies above you in FSX.

Key Features

  • This creation by Just Flight is one of their most dynamic yet; created to work purely with FSX, this taps in and amplifies all of the qualities the most recent simulators can provide. This helps to liven up the experience and give you the best performance that you possibly can

  • A whole new host of features brought in to make the presentation of the aircraft even more impressive; the last thing that you need is something that just feels or looks like the real deal. This combines quality with substance and ensures that you have all the help you need in settling down and enjoying yourself

  • For example, the Merlin engine that this famous aircraft runs on can be seen quite easily when you are flying. All of the little aesthetic spoilers needed to make the aircraft feel truly spectacular have been added in there to create something that looks and feels the part

  • The animated pilot mixes in perfectly with the huge attention to detail on the graphics; with 11 highly realistic liveries included that represent all of the various aircraft that flew under the Hurricane banner, you'll find it easier than ever to get right into the feel of things
