The Battle of Britain

As the first-ever major air force battle to be fought in history, where the entire forces were made up with aircraft, it was also the largest and most sustained period of bombing ever seen in human history. While none of these are things that we should particularly look back upon with fondness, from a technological point of view the Battle of Britain stands as one of the apex eras in aviation.

As both sides looked to gain superiority in the air, knowing that both the Luftwaffe and the RAF were two of the finest air forces on the planet, various battles took place across the country as different objectives were fought over time and time again.

Political bombings, terror bombings, propaganda postings and massive aerial warfare all became the “highlight” of 1940, as it signaled the beginning of a whole new way to wage war with another nation.

It also pointed to a massive change and advancement in the way that aircraft would be perceived in the future – no longer a decent support unit, aviation led the way.

It was now the preferred method of attack whether it was by transporting troops into the vicinity and para dropping them in, or using the aircraft to carry out bombing runs and attacks on the enemy’s outposts and supplies. For anyone who is a war historian, the Battle of Britain stands out as one of the most important in recent history purely for the way it introduced aerial tactical warfare to the world.

The Battle of Britain holds vital significance in the war as well, as it stopped the chance for Operation Sea Lion to take place. This was one of the most ambitious plots ever made uring the war, and was t be a massive sea and air assault on Britain the likes of which it would never have survived. Allied resistance in the skies was the sole thing that held Hitler back from launching this plan, which would have turned the tide of the war and potentially had no comeback for the Allies.

The name of the operation itself comes from a famous speech made by Winston Churchill, then Prime Minister of the UK, in the House of Commons more than three weeks prior to the beginning of hostilities.

It was a watermark moment in the war, and was a crucial turning point in both the way that the war finished and also the rate at which technology improved. Aviation came on leaps and bounds during the War, and was one of the main reasons that Allied forces were able to succeed in the first place as the massive war machine called for an expansion in aerial capabilities to combat the Luftwaffe.

Interesting game but poor information about compatibility. Majority use Windows 10 or Wiondows 7 and nothing is said about compatibility with those two versions of Windows. Thus, many possible customers like me won't buy this game....
