Scampton Dambusters Scenery for FSX/P3D

Scampton Dambusters Scenery for FSX/P3D5.0/5 3 reviews

Interested in trying something new that can freshen up and improve your flight experience in X-Plane? Then it's time to consider the excellent Dambusters mod. As arguably the most popular and well-known of all the Bomber Command stations over the years, the RAF Scampton is a hugely popular part of the RAF and was located - partly - on a site of an old First World War landing ground, known as Brattleby and located just four miles north of Lincoln. In May 1943, this was nothing more than a basic grass airfield with a simple perimeter track and hard standing to help make it a little bit more secure. The hard runways that most aircraft are used to never arrived until September of the same year, meaning that the 617 Squadrons could make their way to Coningsby, instead. The main runway used a flare path as well for night landings, making it easier for aircraft to see where they are - and where they should be going!

With this mod, you get to experience all of this personality and style come to life like never before. This uses static models of the 57 Squadron, which are all parked up across the hard standings around the airfield itself. This adds another layer of much-needed depth and realism, with an AI version of the old 57 Squadron flying around during the day to add yet another drop of realism.

All nineteen of the aircraft leave the airport and eventually land at Dortmund airport before making their way back. It's a nice little touch and adds yet another layer of realism to the operation, making this famous old Air Base feel alive once again.

What's New?

  • Comprehensive working of the ground textures to make sure that the autogen vegetation which is being produced looks as realistic as it possibly can. It helps to sell the real image of the airport and ensures it looks the very best that it can.

  • Operational night lighting offers another fine level of balance to the region, making sure you can fly here at night or during the day and land without any problems. Many pilots find flying at night in simulators quite tough so this should help you out no end.

  • A full complement of custom-designed hangers is being used here to make sure that the airport looks as authentic as it can. Also, new buildings are being used such as support buildings to make sure the airport still has all of the buildings it would need for official functions.

  • Weapons storage areas and technical sites are included, offering a very effective look and feel that changes the very purpose and style of the whole airport.

  • New navigational aids are included, with the NDB Scampton (SA) AT 527.0kHZ.

  • Static aircraft are included, too, to help make sure the airport looks and feels truly alive. It also makes use of brilliant AI densities to help make sure the place feels alive, with scaling for those with machines that cannot handle the excessive activity.

About Team SDB

Team SDB, a joint effort from developers based in the UK and USA but primarily consisting of Mike Dews in the UK and Frank Safranek in the USA have been developing flight simulator scenery add-ons for over a decade.  Originally beginning with work published by Alphasim (Phil Perrott) also known for Virtavia, they now release independantly.

Team SDB generally focus on UK/US airfields, airbases and military precenses and bring them to life as scenery add-ons in the simulators.  They have released many titles that have been well received by the community compatible with a range of simulators such FS2004, FSX and Prepar3D.  They also have other projects releases such as aircraft carrier add-ons compatible with the latest sims.

Team SDB also hope to remaster and release their scenery add-on portfolio for the new Microsoft Flight Simulator (MSFS) 2020 release.

I'm a bit of the amateur historian and flightsim enthusiast. In FSE, I was planning a historical journey with the Aeroplane Heaven Lancaster and having just minutes ago installed this scenery package, all I can say is, "Wow!!"

What a wonder job SDB did on this.

I am VERY, VERY pleased!!

The Scampton Dambusters download is brilliant. I was looking for a WW2 airfield to use as a base for flights of Lancasters to simulate the wartime missions and have the added bonus of flying with 617 squadron on operation Chastise ! Thanks for this great simulation. Cheers diggers33

Brilliant ! I first installed this some years ago but unfortunately suffered some kind of system crash on my computer and lost it. Had no hesitation in purchasing again and it's as good as ever. Thanks for this great program Team SDB.
