The Socata TBM 850 is an aircraft that many people might not have a whole lot of experience in, but for some European crowds it's a very popular aircraft. It was created on French soil and was first used in 1988, and its various formats have seen various hundreds created.

The TBM 850, though, is the most popular model of the lot and has been created 338 times, making up just under half of the full count for both the 700 and 900 models, respectively.

For that reason alone, the TBM 850 is well-respected among French circles and has impressed since it made its debut in 2008. The aircraft has really helped to establish Socata on the map and has helped them bring back a very popular back from the late 80s and early 90s. This has revived an interest in the Socata brand for many people, and comes with the awesome Garmin G1000 integrated flight deck that allows for effective and easy control of the aircraft.

The 850 manages to improve on various aspects of the original, making the aircraft faster with a higher cruise and climb power as well as ensuring that it changes its engines to a more reliable, effective Pratt & Whitney PTA6A-66D turboprop engine due to its more rugged power and ferocious power.

The aircraft itself, though, has been well received since it debuted and eventually led to the 2014 creation of the TBM 900, which is already impressing on most global aviation marketplaces.

If your looking for a great single engined turboprop to add to your virtual hangar, the TBM 850 by Carenado is definitely a strong contender. Carenado have once again created an add-on package brimming with quality and it is available to you now as an immediate download for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Perpar3D.

With Carenado, your guaranteed an incredibly well modeled aircraft, and this one uses super high quality, HD textures (2048 x 2048). You can see every little detail in each of the five included liveries and enjoy the specular shines and reflections they offer as you take this powerful aircraft through the clouds. The dynamic shine on the propeller is particularly beautiful, and compliments the fantastic special effects on the propeller like the volumetric side view.

Inside the cockpit, you'll find a large center screen and two slightly smaller screens for both the pilot and co-pilot. Introducing new 3D knobs technology, you can highlight the various knobs on the panel to bring up an intelligent overlay, showing directions and guides for rotation. The TBM 850 comes equipped with the Carenado G1000 (Primary and Multi-function Display) with a GCU 475 Control Unit, packed with opportunities, including the ability to use the MFD to create flight plans. On top of that, a customizable panel allows you to control your environment visually, by letting you adjust window transparency, instrument reflections and static elements.

Superb flight dynamics were tested by real pilots to ensure the aircraft's characteristics match those of the real-world TBM 850. In concert with the wonderful high quality digital stereo sounds recorded from the real thing, Carenado's TBM 850 certainly is an immersive aircraft to fly.

The aesthetics of the aircraft go up even more when you add the lighting rendering system into the mix. Landing lights, taxi, strobes and beacons, all interact with the environment realistically and will even illuminate objects on the ground.

With this aircraft, you're given the choice of how you want to start the simulation, the default ready to taxi option, of course, or the Cold and Dark option. This is a much more challenging situation; with this option, everything will be switched off and the fuel tanks will be empty. Pilots may need to look at the included PDF documents for normal procedures and emergency checklists before they're ready to tackle it.

Make sure you have a decent system, they didn't render a lite version of this aircraft like they did the Diamond DA-62 I recently posted about, which allows users with lower end computers, to still enjoy the aircraft without the frame clipping of an old Nintendo game. The center display looks as though it was a rush job to put the aircraft out by a deadline, because compared to the other 2 flight displays, well you'll see. Airplane gets tossed around like a rag doll in any wind above 10kts, and god help you if you intend on flying this bird in a multiplayer room..." TRAFFIC, TRAFFIC TRAFFIC" Endlessly if aircraft are anywhere near you. Other than all that, the flight is beautiful at altitude, and no speed brakes, so make sure your bleeding that airspeed off on the way down, otherwise you will float the entire length of the runway.

Nice plane with many features but the Master Warning alarm comes on a lot whenever I have the throttle near idle. I've submitted the problem to Carenado. Hopefully they will fix the issue since others have the same problem.

Great airplane! the airplane does take a big hit on your fps. I have a pretty bad system, but i normally get 10-30 fps. this plane takes it down to 2-5. can anybody let me know if this is the case for the carenedo CJ2?
