Join Captain Don Grange for an exciting take off from London's famous Heathrow Airport and an exacting landing at Hong Kong's Kai Tak! Although tens of millions of people travel through Heathrow every year, very few get to see a take off from the flightdeck, but as you ride along with Captain Grange you'll get to see it first hand!
Landing at Kai Tak, which was closed in 1998, was one of the most demanding landings in the world and is truly exciting to watch. Surrounded on three sides by a harbor and with tall buildings right across from the northern end of the runway, this approach demands incredible skill from pilots. Good thing you'll be in the expert hands of Captain Grange! Passengers have reported that when landing here the plane would come so close to buildings that passengers could actually see inside apartments through the windows, and since Kai Tak no longer exists this is a rare opportunity to witness first hand a fascinating and exacting landing that many people will never see.
Inbetween take off and landing you will be shown another rare treat: a first hand look at Cathay Pacific's Boeing 747-400 flight simulator. This high fidelity simulator is built to mimic every part of a flight; even including pre-flight procedures and turning off the system when connected to the gate. The simulator itself is a perfect replica of a 747-400, both in terms of its design, with every button and dial on the flightdeck accounted for on the simulator, and with regards to how it handles. It reproduces the sights and even the sounds a pilot will see and hear while flying and can even simulate various weather conditions for a dynamic experience.
The incredible accuracy of the system allows pilots to practice handling problems they will hopefully never see in real life such as stalls and various malfunctions. You'll be able to see first hand what it's like to ride in in this high-tech, multimillion dollar simulator!
