Microsoft Flight Simulator X & 2004
Travel back to the 1930s and fly the historic Douglas DC-2 with the add-on content for Microsoft Flight Simulator X and Flight Simulator 2004. Take a flight to the past and enjoy manning the flight of an airplane used for both passenger and military transport.
First manufactured by Douglas Aircraft Company and first flown in 1934 with Trans World Airlines, the DC-2 debuted as one of the first real looks at safe and comfortable passenger flight. Modified DC-2s were flown in World War II as VIP transport for various generals and otherwise important and high-ranking military personnel by the Army, Navy, and Marine Corps.
There are two different ways to man the controls in this simulation: Stay true to history and use the historically accurate cockpit and controls, or take a unique route and fly with modernized controls and cockpit.
This package offers all you need to successfully fly the DC-2, including manuals with flight techniques. The accuracy of this program is irrefutable as this was developed with collaboration with The Aviodrome Museum in Holland. The Douglas DC-2 simulator is as realistic as they come; the graphics are beautiful and true to the size (based off of real world specifications of the Douglas DC-2), mechanics, speed, fuel capacity, and operations of the real deal, but with the option to tweak some of these characteristics to allow for an either accurate or unique (or uniquely accurate!) flying experience.
Enjoy your flight with 3D virtual cockpits, a vast variety of liveries from all around the world! The DC-2 was flown in a plethora of countries, including the United States, Brazil, Australia, Finland, Germany, Japan, Italy, Poland, the United Kingdom, and many others. This aircraft enjoyed a five year run, with 200 of the planes being produced worldwide, so take a seat in the cockpit and get ready for take off!
Manufacturers Description
Flying into history – with style
In the 1930s the launch of the DC-2 caused something of a stir – not only winning prestigious air races but also operating the original ‘red-eye’ service overnight from New York to Los Angeles.
Now you can travel back the age of elegance and style and take the controls of this legendary aircraft.
This outstanding simulation has been a labour of love for its creators, who have worked closely with The Aviodrome Museum in Holland who operated one of the only two DC-2s still flying today.
Choose to fly with two different cockpit layouts in one of the three external models – PLUS 39 beautiful historic liveries of airlines from around the world.
This boxed edition contains printed manual, with everything you need to get yourself airborne – with checklists and reference data all included.
Key Features
-
Highly detailed flight model, based on actual data and information provided by the Aviodrome DC-2 pilots and team.
-
Two highly detailed 3D virtual cockpit (VC) options are included – the historic as flown in the 1930s or fly with modern avionics as fitted in the Aviodrome aircraft.
-
Full instrumentation with the modern layout includes: Garmin GNS 430W GPS, Garmin GMA 340 Audiopanel, and Bendix KX 165A Radio. The 1950's style avionics include NAV1/NAV2 COM1/ADF and Transponder.
-
Photoreal textures for interior and exterior have all been taken from the actual aircraft and feature full bumpmap and specular effects.
-
Countless animations and details including custom cabin effects, working fire extinguisher and fasten seat-belt signs!
-
Realistic fuel system and operations work ‘by the book’. For example a cold engine start will require use of boost pumps and primer as per the checklists!
-
Realistically modelled hydraulic system with shut off valve and manual use in emergency situations. Even the ‘power cart’ is simulated, with external power available before engine start.
-
Incorrect operation will cause failures – such as exceeding the flaps limiting speed or exceeding maximum power settings for too long.
-
The brilliant Virtual First Officer feature means you can hand control over to your co-pilot at any time

Review
"Not only is the external model almost perfect but also the 2D and VC look good and above all, very realistic. The simulated cockpit is so unbelievably real, which I can confirm after visiting the real DC-2 Uiver at the Dutch Aviodrome Theme park and museum. A small remark goes to the text of the words on the overhead panel which looks a little odd, but for the rest, the instruments are sharp but at the same time look old fashioned, as they really are. Rob is aware of this and looking to a proper solution." - Avsim
