Rise Of Flight is the latest in a long list of PC Flight Simulators featuring air combat over the Western Front during the First World War. Together with the Battle of Britain this era is known as ‘the pinnacle of aerial combat’. The best pilots from both sides dogfight in the sky, where they are matched equally with machines and conditions. Nothing but the pilot’s skill determined the outcome. The simplicity of the aircraft and weapons of this period allow the pilots to focus on the dog fight and not on the systems.
The best known aircraft of 1917and 1918 are included (Albatros D.5, Fokker D.VII, DFW C.5, Brequet Bre.14, Nieuport Nie.17, Nieuport Nie.28, Spad S.13, Royal Air Factory SE.5) and each one modeled in great detail with highly realistic engines and weapons. The world around you is not a static backdrop to your flights. Over 100.000 km2 of highly realistic terrain (including Lille, Cambrai, Reims and Verdun) complemented with a sophisticated weather model, which creates a perfect environment from where you will engage the enemy. On the ground you will see the tanks rolling towards the enemy and the trains and trucks that supply to the front line. The front line is marked with trenches, explosions and with the inclusion of the anti-aircraft is not a safe area to fly in.
After completing the training flights you can also fly a single mission to perfect your skills. The career mode is the next logical step and you will join a squadron and participate in one of several campaigns. Of course an advanced mission builder is included so you can make your own mission and share them with your friends. If you so desire you can fight other pilots on the internet or join one of the many virtual squadrons.
As always, we will support the product with community forums, help documents, game servers and we will also have our very own Aerosoft Squadron that will try to dominate the virtual skies.
Rise of Flight is created by the well acclaimed Moscow game developer neoqb and is based on the new Digital Nature game engine. The years of development created a true new generation of flight simulation that makes the best use of modern hardware (including TrackIr).
Reviews
"If I were to use one word to sum up this simulation it would be authenticity. Having 'flown' Rise of Flight for some time now, it is apparent that a lot of research and attention to detail has gone into this product. In fact, the more you fly this sim, the more you discover. There is a lot of depth to RoF on so many levels, from the sumptuous modelling of the aircraft and the evocative and detailed scenery, to the authentic and often haunting sounds that combine to immerse you into its dynamic world. Yet, it's not only stunning in an audio and visual sense, it does an excellent job of conveying a feeling of danger and vulnerability. Rise of Flight is not only fun, it's also educational at the same time. It is true that some criticisms have been levelled at this sim since its initial release, not least because it did seem to have a few technical 'bugs', while some felt that more than four aircraft should have been offered in the initial release. However, Neoqb has, to a large extent, addressed the former criticism with the release of a series of patches, while the latter has been rectified with the availability of a further six aircraft; admittedly these have to be purchased, but for a nominal fee. One thing is certain, however, RoF has all the essential ingredients of becoming a classic title! For me, Rise of Flight is one of the most atmospheric simulations I've flown in recent years." - Conclusion by PC Pilot Magazine
"Rise Of Flight: The Great Air War is a stand-alone WWI flight combat sim from Russian developer neoqb. Four user-flyable aircraft from 1917-1918 are included in the game, with the option to purchase more. Two aircraft belong to the Allies, while two fly on the German side. Each aircraft is distinctive in terms of looks, sounds, and handling. The aircraft are masterworks of virtual aviation, with realistic paint jobs, detailed cockpits, and beautifully rendered dynamic highlights and shadows. The sense of real flight is phenomenal. I would be smiling continuously while flying these aircraft if it were not for the prospect of being taken down by enemy fire. Well, that makes me smile too, but differently.Brutal dogfights dominate the action in Rise Of Flight, as you are plunged into a desperate battle for your life and your country. The war front is never far away, a massive grim by-product of the clash of nations. Although you soar like a bird over the mud and the trenches, your life is only worth the cost of a single well-placed bullet..." - Conclusion by Avsim
