727 Captain is a FSX expansion designed for experienced aviation fans who demand superb realism, both in graphics and through interaction with objects and elements in the game. Along with intricately detailed interior and exterior work on the plane, the simulator also comes with a VHF Omnidirectional Range (VOR) navigation system and a weather radar system with a 2D panel.

Avionics fans who are drawn to stunning realism and place great importance on visual quality will be particularly pleased with this game. The interior is rich with interaction and detail, with movable armrests on the seats, windows that can be individually opened. Thoughtful and logical rules even govern the use of some objects; for example, the fuel dump door can only close if all the switches are turned off.

The two most well developed areas, both visually and interactively in the cockpit are the pilot’s chair and the engineering panel, and texture makes everything, from the seats to the cords, to the knobs and switches look true to life. Hardly forgotten as exteriors can often be, the exterior of the plane in 727 Captain demonstrates talent and dedication by its designers. Streaks and splotches of oil and grime are easily seen on the side of the plane, a sign of careful and clever use of texture.

Realistic animations can be triggered with the flick of a button, such as an emergency slide or engine covers. The designers’ value of detail cannot be overlooked in the screws and hinges visible on the landing gear.

For people who cannot get enough of 727 Captain, a freighter expansion is also available. The freighter expansion features a carefully crafted upper and lower deck, with interactive doors. Players can transfer cargo with a fully operable and animated loader that can move around and handle crates.
